Job Overview

logoInsight Global is seeking a Software Developer (Java) to assist with a military weapons system modernization effort. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining software systems that
contribute to the development and accuracy of ballistic models and simulations. The Ballistics Kernel is a critical component in military systems used for ballistics simulations, fire control, and predictive modeling. The
developer will focus on creating high-performance and scalable solutions to model the physics and dynamics of ballistics accurately. This work directly impacts military readiness, ensuring accuracy in weapon systems and
operational effectiveness. Day to Day: * Writing modular Java code to support computational algorithms for ballistic calculations. * Collaborating with subject matter experts to implement and optimize mathematical models.
* Integrating different software components (e.g., databases, user interfaces) into the ballistics kernel system. * Developing automated tests to validate the accuracy and reliability of the models. * Analyzing and improving
the performance of existing systems, especially for real-time calculations. * Creating technical documentation for systems and updates for ease of use by other developers and military personnel.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEActive DOD SecretBA in Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering or Physics or related field.4+ YOE in Java development–developing scalable backend systems for the ballistics kernel and/or
object-oriented programming for efficient simulation model implementation.Jira or Agile tools–managing tasks, sprints, and collaborative workflows, tracking project process, and ensuring timely delivery of features.Gitlab
and Subversion–source control, versioning, and maintaining a reliable code repository.Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) and/or SOLID design familiarity.Ensures the system is modular, feature-prof, and adaptable for
evolving requirements.Promotes high-quality software design practices.* Windows (primary), some Linux development environments
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEMaster’s degreeStrong knowledge in physics and mathematics with software development focused on computational scientific modeling and simulation.SQL Database and Data Modeling experienceManaging
large datasets such as simulation input/output or system configurations. o Supports high-speed querying for real-time ballistic computations.Windows and Linux development experienceKnowledge in Indirect Artillery Fires o
Domain-specific understanding of how ballistics systems are applied in military operations.This includes knowledge of firing tables, trajectory calculations, and operations constraints.
