6WIND is recruiting a top notch Routing Software Development Engineer, to join our R&D Department located in France (Paris region).
Our teams are composed of software engineering and computer networking experts, as well as mentors following Open Source best practices in their day-to-day work.Code review and attention to code quality and design are key.
As a member of our Routing Software Development Team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing network software that manages how data is routed across networks. This role is critical in building high-performance, scalable, and secure networking solutions.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Design & Development of Routing ProtocolsDevelop and implement network routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, RIP, EIGRP, and MPLSEnhance and optimize routing algorithms for performance, scalability, and reliabilityWork on control plane software for Virtual Service Routers (VSR)Protocol Optimization & Performance TuningImprove routing efficiency to reduce latency, packet loss, and congestionOptimize dynamic routing to adapt to changing network conditions in real timeImplement load balancing and redundancy techniques (e.g., ECMP, fast reroute)Network Software Development & IntegrationDevelop software for Software-Defined Networking controllersIntegrate with network operating systems (NOS) such as FRRouting (FRR)Work with open-source networking stacks (e.g., Quagga, BIRD, VyOS)

Skills and qualifications:
Engineering Degree or Equivalent in Computer ScienceAt least 5 years of professional experience in software developmentWell versed in C and Python programming languagesIn-depth knowledge of Network Routing Protocols : BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, SRv6…Comfortable with Linux and Open-source environmentsStrong multithreading and performance-oriented programming skillsExperience in virtualization environments (KVM, Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift…) is a plusTeam spirit, technical curiosity, fast learning abilitiesPassionate about programming, computer networking and complex problem solvingComfortable with technical EnglishComfortable with French language
This position is available either in hybrid mode (2 days of remote working per week / 3 days onsite) or in full remote (from France) with travels every quarter to our French HQ located in Montigny le Bretonneux (78).
