About The Role

The Senior Demo Engineer plays a pivotal role within our Demo Engineering team, focusing on developing sophisticated, custom solutions and tooling that showcase the full potential of the Shopify platform. This is a dedicated software engineering position and is not a customer-facing role. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to create dynamic demonstrations that help close new business and drive revenue growth.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Demo Engineer you will play a critical role in supporting solution engineering in various ways:

Create custom branded experiences, illustrating the art of the possible on the Shopify platform using a range of programming languages and toolsDevelop generalized demo assets to populate our demo libraryWork with a variety of languages and build full-stack tooling to automate tasks, including:Remix and HydrogenRuby and RailsNodeJS and PythonReact and TypeScriptDesign and build custom storefront prototypes using GraphQL APIs, Liquid for theme building and TailwindCSSServe as the technical expert on our team, owning high-priority projectsUnblock your teammates in technical challenges and serve as a mentor for the team, boosting morale and sharing knowledgePlay a critical role in defining our technical strategy and communicate feedback to stakeholder teams to help influence the roadmapLearn and develop transferable skills that will benefit a career in Engineering, Product, Sales, and more

What We’re Looking For

Past experience with Ruby and Rails, with a desire to expand your skills into other languagesExperience with JavaScript, Liquid, React and GraphQL.Passion for backend development and database connectivity, with a willingness to explore languages like Python and NodeJSExperience with SQLStrong technical aptitude and a consistent record of executionSelf-starter attitude with the ability to work independently and own your development pipelineStrong organizational and project management skills with the ability to multitask and re-prioritizeExcellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skillsDesire to work and thrive in a rapidly changing environmentPassion for learning

It’d be great if you have experience in these areas:

Experience with eCommerce development, including product and collections pages, checkout flows, navigation menus, and eCommerce funnel optimizationFamiliarity with Shopify development and Shopify CLIKnowledge of Liquid templating for building custom Shopify storefrontsExperience building serverless functions or cloud servicesExperience handling large datasets from server-side to client-sideExperience working with 3rd party services, REST APIs and webhooks
