About the Role:Advanced Energy United seeks a solutions-oriented, innovative, and politically savvy Senior Vice President of Strategy (SVP). This position is a part of the management team that drives the overall strategy for the organization, with a focus on program strategy and management alongside fundraising. The SVP will oversee a team of policy strategists, both Managing Directors and Directors, and will work collaboratively with them to develop, implement and scale multi-year strategies and campaigns designed to achieve policy successes that will accelerate the transition to 100% clean energy and electrified transportation. The SVP will also lead the fundraising team, externally representing United in strategy conversations with funders, and enabling United to meet our fundraising goals.
Responsibilities:Lead development of policy and program strategies for accelerating the transition to 100% clean energy and electrified transportation in close collaboration with program leadsWork collaboratively across United’s policy team on developing and implementing strategies to meet short and long-term policy objectives on key issues as part of United’s core portfolio. This will include expanding wholesale markets, electrifying transportation, enabling building electrification, and educating and engaging decision makers.Lead fundraising strategy to scale policy programs. Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programs and the growth of United, cultivating existing relationships and developing new funder relationships.Develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control, and performance.Provide leadership in the development of cross-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting staff during organizational growth.As an external representative and ambassador of United, will play a leading role in setting the agenda and driving outcomes for our priority campaigns.Work with United members to develop and reach consensus on policy positions on key issues. Facilitate member calls and lead policy discussions to coalesce member input and prioritize areas of interest and engagement.Work with team members to ensure high quality member engagement opportunities are conducted on key issues through direct decision maker engagement, including lobby days and candidate education, earned media, and expert testimony; and participate in legislative, rulemaking, and administrative processes, as needed.Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with coalition partners, philanthropy, allies, and key legislative, regulatory and administrative staff.Travel on an as needed basis (up to 30%) for advocacy days, technical conferences, meetings with key allies and stakeholders, staff development, and other efforts on behalf of United.
Qualifications:Committed to Advanced Energy United’s mission and values and an ability to convey that commitment to othersMinimum of 12 years of professional experience in policy and/or political campaign/organizing experience, preferably with engagement in the clean energy or transportation sectorProven leadership skills and demonstrated experience managing a high-performing team in a remote environment with a commitment to empowering talent and collaborationStrong demonstrated fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders including members, customers, and fundersEntrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to operate independently, making decisions consistent with United’s mission/visionExcellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbalIntellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage a project budget and financialsPerformance-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, demonstrated initiative and commitment to achieving goals
Pay range and compensation package – Salary Range: $195,000 to $220,000 annually plus a generous benefits package and perks. Actual placement in range is based on position-related skills, experience, and executive leadership acumen, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
