Job Overview
With the support of the Santander Universities Programme, Mesh-Oriented Solutions (MOS) is offering a part-time, eight-week long internship for current undergraduate (3rd year +) and postgraduate
students of the University of Glasgow.
MOS (https://mesh-oriented-solutions.com) is a Glasgow-based startup leveraging the application of the MoFEM (http://mofem.eng.gla.ac.uk) to tackle challenging industrial applications.
MoFEM is an open-source computer simulation tool based on advanced finite element technology developed at the University of Glasgow.
The key advantages of MoFEM over existing commercial software include:cutting-edge modelling capability, which outperforms commercial tools, flexibility that allows it to be adapted, customised and integrated into existing
simulation workflows, the potential to exploit modern computer hardware architecture.
The catalyst for the development of MoFEM was the need of industrial partners and researchers for a flexible and numerically accurate
modelling environment for complex, multi-physics problems. Mesh-Oriented Solutions (MOS) aims to utilise MoFEM to revolutionise simulation and prototyping in the manufacturing (energy, defence, automotive, and aerospace),
healthcare and nanoelectronics sectors.
This internship offers a unique blend of hands-on experience in cutting-edge computational engineering, GPU programming, and open-source software development. Interns will work
directly with MoFEM, a powerful tool used by industry leaders like Rolls-Royce and EDF Energy, to enhance its capabilities with GPU-compatible libraries. By tackling real-world challenges in structural integrity and multiphysics
simulations, participants will gain valuable expertise at the forefront of engineering innovation.
Participants will receive training in using modern software development in C++ using industry-standard tools, running
simulations on HPC clusters, and developing GPU-ready computational frameworks.
The essential criteria for the role are:E1. Proficiency in C++E2. Experience with scripting languages such as PythonE3. Fundamental knowledge
of Numerical Methods for solving Linear Algebra problems
The desirable criteria for the role are:D1. Experience with parallel programming libraries like OpenMP, MPID2. Understanding of GPU programming concepts and parallel
computingD3. Knowledge or experience with Unix-based systemsD4. Prior experience working with or contributing to open-source projects
Start date details: Flexible (no later than June 2025.)
Salary details: £16 per hour (20 hours per week)
