Our challenge
The SQL Database Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SQL databases and related applications. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, including expertise in database design, T-SQL, stored procedures, and performance tuning, as well as a solid understanding of business processes and requirements.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within New York, NY is $120k – $130k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and implement SQL database systems, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. Develop high-quality database solutions, including complex stored procedures, functions, tables, views, and queries. Analyze existing SQL queries for performance improvements and optimize them for maximum efficiency. Collaborate with software developers and system analysts to understand and integrate business processes with database applications. Troubleshoot and resolve database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues, etc. Develop procedures and scripts for data migration. Prepare documentations and specifications including database design and coding standards. Conduct database troubleshooting and maintenance operations. Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity. Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required. Ensure all database programs meet the company and performance requirements. Assist in developing database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures. Participate in the creation of data models and database designs that support business processes.
Requirements:
You are:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Proven work experience as a SQL Database Developer or similar role. Strong proficiency with SQL and its variation among popular databases. Experience with some of the modern relational databases. Skilled at optimizing large, complicated SQL statements. Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases. Capable of configuring and maintaining database servers and processes. Experience with Data Warehouse design and concepts. Familiarity with tools that can aid with profiling server resource usage and optimizing it. Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
It would be great if you also had:
Certification as a SQL Database Administrator. Knowledge of software development and user interface web applications. Hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS, Microsoft Azure) and database as a service. Familiarity with the .NET framework, SQL Server, and design/architectural patterns.
