Job Description
Depop is looking for an experienced Web Engineer to join us permanently. Within this role, you’ll be working in the Marketplace product engineering pillar developing the services used for interaction between our customers, Depop agents, and Depop.
As a member of this cross functional space, you will collaborate with product, design and other engineers to create a seamless, efficient, and trustworthy journey for our users, from the moment they register to the moment they receive an order or need customer support.
You’ll own the entire lifecycle of small/medium projects of moderate complexity in both our web app and web APIs. You’ll need to be comfortable dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity, proactively pulling in people at the right time. Your work will be pivotal in ensuring we facilitate excellent interactions between Depop and our customers on the platform.
Responsibilities:
As a Web Engineer within this team, you can expect to:
Work closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Product Designers, and various Engineers to understand problems and to design solutions Produce high-quality code that is well-structured and simple to understand that will be used by 1M+ active daily usersTake ownership of product development, from feature discovery, to the breakdown of work, and its implementationEnd-to-end application support, including production incident management Embrace agile methodologies and user-centred thinkingEngage in a culture of continuous improvement by attending events such as blameless post-mortems, architecture reviews, and engineering guild sessions. Collaborate on a daily basis with fellow engineers in the cross functional environment to solve problems and write codeMentor and coach your colleagues
Qualifications
Solid JavaScript skills, including concepts like asynchronous programming, promises, closures, types, and ES6.HTML/CSS experience, including concepts like layout, specificity, cross browser compatibility, and accessibility.Experience in TypeScript, React and Node.js. Building automated tests using Javascript test frameworks.Experience consuming RESTful API services.Comfortable in using Git.Experience working collaboratively as part of an agile team in a product-focused business.
Nice To Haves:
Experience deploying web applications at scale.Experience writing RESTful API services, either in Javascript or Kotlin/Scala.Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.Experience with databases like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MySQLExperience of CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) and embracing DevOps with maintaining pipelines using Jenkins.
